very noisy stepper motor ? - solution

Message par stu_le_brew46 »

I have a problem with a very noisy stepper motor, specifically the Y axis stepper.

The cutting results are 100% fine now and very accurate, so the motor is working fine. When I remove the belt the motor turns freely and the X axis gantry also moves freely, the noise sounds like a mechanical grating.

I plan to try a different power controller later in the week

wondered is anyone else has experienced a noisy stepper ???

Is the noise only happens with the belt mounted ?
I had this issue when the belt where too much tighten.

I think the problem is OK now, when the stepper is removed from the machine, there seems to be no real noise at all, so my conclusion is that the aluminum frame is acting to amplify the noise/vibration.

So I have redesigned the Y stepper mount to be stronger and hope this reduces the vibration
