My R-CNC is skipping steps

Message par 3DStyle »

Hello,

I just finished to build my R-CNC.
I tried to cut wood and aluminum with the machine, first layer cuts were alright, but in the 2nd or 3rd layer,
My R-CNC is skipping badly. All the belts are tensioned, which makes it hard for me to look where the problem is.

Notes:
1. My left Y axis uses 6mm belt. I'm still waiting for more 10mm betls, but I don't think this is what causes the issue.
2. I'm using Makita RT0700C router.
3. I'm using Estlcam 11 to process the file to GCODE, then run it with Repetier host.

I'm not sure if the issue is in the GCODE file or something in the hardware (or maybe with the electronics?)

Please let know if any additional information is required.

Thanks!

Hi 3Dstyle,

Do you use Ramps 1.4 with Marlin ?

Are the levers of the drivers well set ?

Hi RoMaker,

I use MKS Gen V1.4 with your Marlin software.

This is how I set the levers of the drivers for X and Y axis. Is this correct?
(1, 2, 4 - UP. 3, 5, 6 - DOWN)

Some mods I did:

- Added a cooling fan to cool down the MKS Gen board.
- I use A4899 driver for the Z axis. I increased the potentiometer on it from 0.600V to around 1.1V.
- I received my reinforced 10mm wide GT2 belts and replaced them instead of the 6mm belt on the left Y axis.
- I also found out that on my Y motor, the pulley on the shaft was not tighen which I'm pretty sure what cuase the issue, I guess it made the belt to slip.

Thanks!

Hi !

the levers must set for the amperage of your motors

Tell me if that was the Y pulley not tighen ;)

Cheers

Yes! It helped, I was able to cut Aluminum with no skipping at all! 8-)

I do have one issue though, which I'm not sure if it's related to the machine or to the file.
I uploaded a DXF file to Estalcam 11. This is how the part looks like:

I let the inner holes to be milled first, and for the final step I told the software to cut the whole part.
All the holes were milled fine, but the part itself was a total fail - the Z axis began to cut fine but it just kept
moving down and down, to a point where it milled 3.5mm through the Aluminum, straight away!

I opened Estalcam 11 and looked on the preview of the file, nothing seems wrong. The part it self looks like
it supposed to be cut in layers (0.2mm each layer), but in reality Z axis kept moving down.

I took a look on the GCODE file and I can see that it tells to the machine's Z axis to cut 0.2mm each layer.
Let me know if you want me to share it with you.

Do you have any idea why it happened?

Good evening,
Also I noticed that my CNC loses the steps on the x axis. Every time I go down 1 mm it moves on the x axis to the left. As seen from the photograph, the cut is not straight, but goes down to regular steps.
What can be that causes this?

We got some issues like this with Marlin, you have to try with Repetier Firmware, it's stable.

Hello
Thanks for the reply. Is there a tutorial for installing repetier instead of Marlin?
Can you tell me where I can find it?
Thank you
