Aluminium bed

I have looked at the RS-CNC assembly section and must say congratulations for the excellent tutorial! It's really clear and understandable.
Now my idea is to use aluminium instead of mdf for the bed. A 12mm plate to be drilled and tapped, maybe with steel inserts. Any problems with that? Can I otherwise follow the instructions and be ok?

one more question. What's best to use for the steel tubes? 1,5mm or 2mm wall thickness? I was about to order the latter, but thought it could be ineffective weight added to the carriage

It would seem that only the external size matters for the rigidity, for me there is no difference that you take 1.5 or 2mm wall thickness

Another thing: What is your recommendation for using nylon nuts? Is it optional or in what places does it make sense?

If you have the choice, you can install M6 nylon nuts everywhere (or loctite thead lock), it's safer because of vibrations.
