Message par 3DStyle »

#1 or #2 just because they seems to be a lot lighter than other ones.
Don't forget it's a plastic CNC and every single gramm more will cause deflection on the XZ part.

Aluminium is better to keep the spindle cold, but it's heavy for this machine and I'm not sure it will be better with it.

Actually, I printed the "katsu holder" in ABS (PLA is the worst solution for this part, because near 60°C, his size changes and it not longer holds the Katsu).
And I put 2 pieces of steel on each size to be able to turn the screws a lot more.
( look at the pic of the video below, you will see it )

Last but not least, try to keep your Kastu cold: never use more than speed 4 or 4.5 on the Katsu (I measured the 'real' speeds: 1 is 16000rpm (instead of 10000) and 6 is 36000rpm (instead of 30000): it's way too fast in almost all cases (even wood).
And after a long run, don't switch off the Katsu directly, put it on speed 1 and wait 3 or 4min, to let it cool a bit => very important thing to do. Otherwise it will warm up more and more and you will kill your bearing (I did :? )

Appreciate the tips!

I don't use a Katsu, I have a Makita router, but I'll keep in mind to watch for the speeds of the spindle.
Adding these 2 metal strips looks like a good idea to squeeze a bit more pressure on the mount, will try that!
